Shadowbox Live
Shadowbox Live is the nation's largest resident theatre ensemble. Established as an artist-operated company in Columbus, Ohio in 1988, Shadowbox Live produces critically acclaimed, original works that move audiences beyond presentation into a shared expression.
After nearly 20 years, the theatre troupe wanted to update their brand to reflect who they had become while paying homage to where they had come from. A weathered expression of their brand was selected as well as a nod to the sophistication of their art.
Identity Package
The logo contains the mirror (black circle), the rust box and the word mark. The mirror is the reflection that acting gives back to the patron. The Rust box is their heritage and word mark connotes maturity and elegance.
Brand Collateral
Shadowbox Live's brand collateral was used to illuminate what made the troupe special and book groups to come to upcoming shows and special events.
Menu
Shadowbox Live had an extensive menu that was prepared and served by the troupe and took the idea of "dinner theater" to a whole new level.
Meta tags
Shadowbox Live shows can have various components. A meta tag system was created to help set guest expectations and increase performance satisfaction.
The Process
Business Need
Shadowbox Live has been around for decades and survived economic downturns, a fire that burned down their first theater, and typical ups and down of the arts.
Goal
Shadowbox Live wanted a new brand with updated messaging, logos, and designs that captured their history and their future.
Challenge
The past and the future are hard to meld together. By leveraging a classic font face for their wordmark, the rusted square, and the Victorian swoop, they had all that they wanted for the new brand identity.
Outcomes
Shadowbox Live successfully launched their new brand messaging and design and continue to use it 12 years later.
